Rhythm ≠ Tempo

One is about speed. The other is about cohesion within your team.
And that is precisely where many organisations go wrong.
Last week, we spoke to an entrepreneur who wants to use a percussion workshop with Business Beat to bring his leadership team closer together at the start of 2026. During that conversation, we noticed once again how often “rhythm” is confused with “speed”.
Many leaders think: ‘If we just run faster, everything will be fine.’
But rhythm is not about speed. Rhythm provides so much more information. Above all, it makes things clearer.
In music, rhythm determines:
• which style you choose (samba sounds different from disco),
• where the emphasis lies (focus),
• what energy you feel (following or leading),
• how you use dynamics (when to step on the gas and when not to),
• when you can initiate a change (anticipate).
And that's exactly how it works in organisations.
We see it time and time again: when leadership sets a clear rhythm – what we do, how we do it, when and, above all, why – it creates a foundation that the whole team can immediately build on.
Without rhythm, teams feel uncertainty, fragmentation and irritation. Rhythm creates direction, trust, space and visibility of everyone's contribution.
Last week's conversation immediately gave that entrepreneur new insights. The workshop is definitely happening. ;-)
But honestly? His leadership team needs to start creating their own rhythm right now.
